“Vokoun pointed out the irony of the fact that while the modern world offers people more communication tools than ever, many people have never felt more isolated. His own attempts to reconnect with nature often have led him to put aside his painting and resort to the comparatively primitive approach of making graphite drawings on paper when he explores the mountains, mesas, canyons and trails of the Southwest.”

Alternately classified as digital art, computer art, and multimedia art, what Vokoun creates lies closer to what's known as glitch art: art fashioned out of the bugs and errors found in software, video games, digital devices, and digital data. Vokoun, though, takes glitch art a little further. He doesn't just aestheticize these technological mistakes; he filters them through his love of Color Field painting, thereby updating, in a way, the abstract works of Mark Rothko, Ellsworth Kelly, Hans Hofmann, Josef Albers, and others.”
